Prospect of Tax Overhaul Dims Because of Talk on Extending Tax Breaks

Efforts to overhaul the tax code in Congress could be hindered by negotiations over extending a series of tax breaks, according to this article. Republican lawmakers on the House Ways and Means Committee say they want to rewrite the tax code first before turning to extenders, but Senate Democrats say they want the tax breaks revived to provide certainty for businesses. The disagreement on extenders poses an obstacle for tax reform, but there is still enough time for an overhaul before the end of the year, said Rep. Dave Camp, R-Mich., chairman of the House Ways and Means Committee. (From NRCA)
