U.S. Jobless Claims Bump Up, but Trend Still Seen as Favorable

U.S. claims for jobless benefits rose by 24,000 last week, more than expected but at a time when numbers may have been distorted by the Easter holiday. Economists said that the broader trend of about 300,000 claims a week remains intact, indicating fewer firings by employers anticipating renewed demand.
