Repairs on N.Y. Church Roof will Require Lifting Roof, Pulling Walls Back In

The 107-year-old First Congregational Church in Riverhead, N.Y., aims to replace its cedar shake roof with an asphalt or metal roof, as the roof has begun to collapse. "We're going to do a weight reduction of 6,000 pounds in the ceiling and 25,000 pounds on the roof material," said Richard Cox of RC Construction. The work will involve lifting the roof and then using cables to pull the walls back in.
