Hilltop House Loses Permit as Neighbors Fear It Destabilizes Slope (By Sharon O'Malley)

Los Angeles has shut down construction on a 30,000-square-foot hilltop home after neighboring homeowners complained the building had destabilized the slope.  Underground wine cellars and basement bowling alleys from several mansions under construction in Bel-Air, Calif. made a threat to the safety of the property and residents around them, the neighbors and their lawyers contend in lawsuits.  Lawyers have said it’s unusual for the city’s Department of Building and Safety to revoke an entire construction permit, as it usually opts instead to stop just pieces of the project.
