Roof Design Load Could Help Reduce Risk of Collapse in Colorado City
The design load of roofs in Aspen, Colo., may provide information
about the likelihood of a structure to cave in from snow and alert residents to
consult an engineer, according to this article. Roofs installed after March
1965 would be designed with a load of 75 pounds per square foot, as compared to
those built before that year, which may be built to carry only 45 to 60 pounds
per square foot, said Jim Markalunas, a former city official.
